What Makes Our Dyslexia Training So Effective?

Online Reading Tutor is an app-based learning program built to help children who are reading-delayed or have a reading disability like dyslexia. To date, we’ve helped over 2,000 learners reach grade-level reading comprehension. Here’s how.

Individualized assessment

Our free assessment measures actual reading ability relative to grade level. It’s the first stage of the app, and it helps identify the specific areas where a learner is struggling, along with their risk level for dyslexia or a reading delay. The assessment takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete, and you’ll receive a detailed report by email right away.

Learning built around each student

Our program is designed so your child can work at their own pace toward continuous progress. Each lesson includes an instructional video, a warm-up session, and lesson components that let students master one concept before moving to the next.

Flexibility

Students can train anywhere, anytime, with unlimited access to Orton-Gillingham based lessons.

Auditory-visual exercises

Our lessons include auditory-visual match exercises: a student hears a target letter pattern while simultaneously seeing three choices on screen. The program measures both accuracy and consistency of pace as students respond. Over time, this builds automatic, fluent decoding skills. Auditory-visual match exercises are especially effective for struggling readers.

Frequency

Traditional tutoring, whether at home or at a brick-and-mortar center, often struggles to produce results, for two reasons. First, sessions are frequently too long to stay productive; most children lose focus after about 45 minutes. Second, traditional tutoring tends to be too infrequent to build the neural connections new learning requires. It’s the combination of frequent, focused training that makes Online Reading Tutor so effective: five 30-minute quality sessions a week consistently outperform one or two longer sessions with a traditional tutor.
